How Often Should I Read the Bible?
The Bible sets no required number of minutes or chapters, but its own picture is daily and ongoing — 'day and night' in Psalm 1, 'daily' in Acts 17:11. For most people that means a short reading most days rather than a long one occasionally.
What the Bible itself says
No verse prescribes a schedule. What scripture does describe is a rhythm: meditating 'day and night' (Psalm 1:2, Joshua 1:8), talking about God's words 'when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up' (Deuteronomy 6:7), and the Bereans 'examining the Scriptures daily' (Acts 17:11). The pattern is frequency and familiarity, not volume.
Why daily beats weekly
A short daily reading keeps the thread of a book in your head — yesterday's chapter is still fresh when you open today's. A long weekly session tends to restart from cold each time, and a missed week becomes a missed month. Habit research points the same way: behaviors repeated in the same context each day become automatic far faster than ones done occasionally.
Daily does not mean perfect. Missing a day is normal; what matters is returning the next day instead of treating the plan as broken.
How much is enough?
Reading three to four chapters a day (1,189 in all) gets you through the whole Bible in a year; one chapter a day takes a little over three years; a single psalm or a few verses read slowly is still real reading. Pick an amount you can finish in ten to fifteen minutes on a bad day, not a good one — that is the amount you will actually keep.
