Common questions
Where do the word counts come from?
They are counted from the World English Bible, the public-domain translation quoted across this site: about 755,000 words in all. Other English translations differ by a few percent, so treat the times as planning estimates.
Why do audio Bibles take longer than the calculator's silent estimate?
Narrators read at roughly 150 words a minute, while most adults read silently at 200 to 250. At the read-aloud speed the calculator comes close to the running time of most audio Bibles, about 70 to 85 hours.
How many minutes a day to read the Bible in a year?
